Prisonners transferred after three weekends of revolt
On Sunday December 6th, about 20 prisoners refused again to enter their cells. The ‚regional security team‘ was called. It’s been the third consecutive Sunday the prisoners rebel. Police says the the weekend was full of tension. And police added that about a hundred of prisoners would be transfered to two other prisons: Villefranche- sur-Saone and Saint-Quentin Fallavier these next 15 days. The first is almost full already, and the second doesn‘t have any place left anymore.
In Februar 2010, a new prison in Bourg-en-Bresse will be opened. One more.
NOVEMBER 22nd
On Sunday, at Corbas prison ( in Corbas, Lyon area), at about 3.30, 200 prisoners refuse to enter their cells. After several hours, about 70 people still don‘t want to obey. The administration calls then the ERIS Forces ( a special police team trained for prison revolts, masked in order to be totally anonymous and to prevent from any vengeance). The pres says the revolts finished at 21.00 . A guard declares there was no confrontation, no demands and no injured. However, after the facts five prisoners were imprisoned in the isolation block, for rebellion.
Corbas is a new prison, built outside Lyon, where were transferred the prisoners of the old prisons, on May 4th. Though it is ‚new‘, it’s already crowded. There are no individual cells, and mattresses are put on the floor. Women don‘t have access to classes or diplomas, and the only workshop proposed for them are knitting and sewing.
At least, the prisoners are far away from the center; and the white prison walls reflects modernity.
